Maddie and John’s Whistle Bear Golf Club wedding was on a beautiful day at the beginning of October. I met Maddie and John through a couple who I photographed a few years before. Maddie and John are such a great couple and they have known each other for a long time.
On the day of the wedding, I started taking photos of Maddie and her crew at a local hotel in Cambridge. Everyone was having so much fun and the energy was so exciting. After Maddie finished getting ready, we all headed to Whistle Bear to check out the reception room. Their reception was in the Forestview room and terrace and it looked fantastic. I loved all the natural light and high ceilings and the flowers and décor looked great. The private terrace attached to the reception room was a nice feature and had a lovely view of the golf course.
Maddie and her dad had a first look in the reception room, and it was one of the sweetest moments. I’ll never forget the expression on Maddie’s dad when he saw her as a bride for the first time. It was truly heartwarming. Also, the little niche in the room, which was behind the head table was a perfect location for photos. There was amazing window light there and white walls which provided a fantastic backdrop.
The ceremony followed, and was held in the Garden chapel at the golf club. I love this charming location for a wedding ceremony. The gardens surrounding the chapel are so well maintained and the retractable roof structure is very pretty and keeps guests shaded and comfortable. The ceremony was lovely and then we proceeded to take photos of the family close to the structure.
After we finished family photos, the entire wedding party headed into the forest on the golf club in golf carts. We drove to a location with a nice “love” sign and took some photos of the wedding party. We also took some photos on the forested pathway next to the sign with some lovely fall colours in the background. The bridal party headed back to the clubhouse and then we took a few more photos of the bride and groom in the same location. There was another lovely path that we found, and it provided some nice variety for the photos.
During the reception, at sunset, we snuck out for ten minutes onto the golf course and took a few more photos of the couple. The sun was setting behind them and it was the perfect time and setting for photos. I always like to do this if it is possible, because the best photos happen around sunset. I also find that couples are more relaxed at this point in the wedding day which translates to great photos.
Maddie and John’s wedding reception was a blast! Their friends and family had a great time and the dance floor was packed.
