Trip to Nashville – Part 1

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably noticed that I recently went on a trip to Nashville.  I follow a wedding photographer who is located in Nashville named Julie Paisley and I decided to go to her workshop.  I love Julie Paisley’s photos and I thought it would be a great excuse to check out Nashville as well.   Nashville seems like a popular vacation destination and I’ve always wanted to go.

My husband was busy with work and wasn’t able to come with me, but that was okay.  I decided to go by myself and I have no regrets.  I’ve travelled alone a few times, and I have to admit that I love it!   I got to do all my favourite things on my own timeline and it ended up being one of my best trips ever.  The trip consisted mostly of shopping, eating and taking photos… three of my favourite things!

When I arrived, I asked the hotel concierge for a recommendation for a restaurant and he suggested Martin’s BBQ.  This place was soooo good!  I wish I could bring it back to Canada.

After the barbecue, I went for a walk and I stumbled upon Broadway and the crazy strip of bars… Wow!  It was unreal! Every place had live music and it was very busy and lively.   It was so unique and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.  There were lots of groups of ladies there for bachelorette parties.  Apparently Nashville has earned the title of “Bachelorette capital” of America.  It definitely is a fun destination and you would never get bored around here.

The next day, I went on a tour bus and checked out some of the famous sites.  First, we took a trip to the Ryman Auditorium.  It’s a live performance venue and had a major role in the popularization of country music.  It was a really interesting tour!

After that, we went to the country music hall of fame and museum.  There was an exhibit on Loretta Lynn that was really great.  I didn’t know much about her before, but I was amazed at her life story.  She started as a poor coal miner’s daughter and ended up as one of the most famous country stars in the world.  Amazing lady! (pls don’t mind the iPhone photos:))

After my tour finished, I drove the the trendy Gulch area and had lunch at Milk and Honey… which I highly recommend.  The inside was so cool and the food was delicious.

My waiter at Milk and Honey suggested that I go visit the 12 South area of Nashville.  He said there were some nice shops and restaurants there, so I headed that way…

When I got there I saw the Draper James store, which is owned by Reese Witherspoon.  I’m a big fan of Reese Witherspoon.. I love her movies and book recommendations.  I knew that she had this store, and I always wanted to see it so I was so happy that I finally got to check it out.

The sales lady gave me sweet tea when I entered.. how cute is that?

There were some more cool shops in the 12South area and lots of nice restaurants.

I was loving life at this point.. So much shopping, touring and good food. It had been a fun few days alone, and it was time for me to head to the workshop.  Stay tuned for my next blog post and I’ll show you some more highlights!
