Outdoor Wedding At Captain Roberts Table – Katy + J.P.

Katy and J.P. got married on a beautiful fall day in late October in Penetanguishene, Ontario.  I met Katy and J.P. a few years ago after they first got engaged and I was really excited for their wedding.  Their original plan was to get married a few years ago in Muskoka, but then the pandemic came along and made their dream of a big wedding impossible.   I kept in touch with them over a few years and the plans kept evolving.

Finally, things settled down and they were able to have the wedding of their dreams.  They had to change their plans so many times, and I was so excited that it was finally going to happen!   They both love the outdoors, so they chose to have their wedding ceremony in Awenda National Park in Penetanguishene.

The outdoor amphitheatre at the park was the perfect backdrop for their ceremony.   I loved the rustic vibe of the wooden stage with the floral arch.   Katy and J.P.  had their bridal party in attendance and their beautiful dog named Pickles was there as well.  Isn’t “Pickles”, such a great name for a dog?!  Anyhow, Pickles was very well behaved during the ceremony and I think he was so happy to finally see his owners getting married!

Once the ceremony was finished, we headed to Captain Robert’s Table restaurant which is located on the harbour in Penetanguishene.   This venue is really unique, since it is located in the historic area of Discovery Harbour.  The restaurant is surrounded by other historic buildings, a beautiful boardwalk and several historic tall ships in the water.   We had a great time taking their photos on the pier and in one of the tall ships.    The lake looked beautiful in the background of their photos as well.

Upon our arrival to the venue, we heard from the owners that there was an electricity blackout in the area and there would be no air conditioning, lighting etc. for their wedding reception.    This must have been hard to hear for the couple, but everyone worked together to come up with alternate plans.   Things seemed to go really well during the reception despite the power outage.

When it came time for the dancing, all the guests moved outside to the area in front of the restaurant.   Katy and J.P.  had their first dance outside under the stars with their guests using their flashlights on their phones to light them up.   Their first dance was really a heartwarming experience to photograph.   After the first dance was finished Katy and her dad had the most amazing father/daughter dance I’ve ever seen.   There were fireworks blasting off in the background and the crowd was going wild.   Every time I think of that dance, I get a big smile on my face.

Katy and J.P. went through a lot to finally have their dream wedding, but when the day finally came it turned out to be fantastic.  It was truly unforgettable!   Take a look at some of my favourite photos…

Katy rented out a very nice airbnb to get ready in. I loved the white walls and the nice window light. It was a great choice for her getting ready photos…

Awenda Provincial Park is a massive park on Georgian Bay. They have this gorgeous outdoor amphitheater in the middle of the park which is perfect for wedding ceremonies.

Pickles the beautiful dog is below. He is so gorgeous!

Katy and J.P. had a harp player at their wedding and Katy got a chance to play it during the reception. This photo cracks me up!

The pier at discovery harbour was a really unique place for wedding photos.

The reception room looked lovely with all the rustic details.

These were some of the most memorable dances I’ve ever seen at a wedding. So many good vibes were there and people loved it.

Congratulations Katy + J.P.! Thank you for asking me to photograph your wedding!
