Ellen and Hugh’s Galt Country Club wedding was on the most gorgeous spring day in early June. When I met Ellen and Hugh a few years ago, I knew that their wedding would be a joy to photograph. Their wedding was postponed due to covid and the plans ended up changing, but the new plan was just as wonderful as the original idea.
A lot of the couples who I’ve photographed lately have known each other for a long time. I’ve met quite a few high school sweethearts who’ve known each other for years and I always think it’s so amazing when this happens. Ellen and Hugh were unique though, because they actually met in Kindergarten! Yes, you read that right! They met when they were very young and apparently Hugh knew as early as grade two that he and Ellen were meant to be! At some point, Ellen’s family moved away but the couple reunited when they both started studying engineering at university. Isn’t that amazing!
Ellen and Hugh started their day with a first look, which I always love because it really reduces the stress for the couple. We took a bunch of photos around Galt Country Club and there were quite a few really nice locations. We rode a golf cart to some weeping willows which had a lake in the background. There was also a really nice shady path with some wildflowers on the way to the willows.
The outdoor ceremony was live streamed and went off perfectly. There was an amazing choreographed dance and a really nice cake cutting. After the cake cutting, we took some more photos at sunset on the golf course. Normally, this would be difficult to do when there is a large number of guests waiting to see the couple, but because it was such a small wedding, everything was much more relaxed. Covid may have forced Ellen and Hugh to keep their wedding simple, but it was still beautiful and meaningful. We loved being there to capture everything!
Take a look at some of my favourite photos….
Ellen rented an AirBnb that had a room with light walls and amazing window light. This was a perfect location for the getting ready photos.
Hugh got ready at a local hotel and it was also really nice!
Ellen and Hugh started with a first look. Ellen told me afterwards that seeing Hugh before the ceremony really helped to calm her nerves.
Check out this framed picture that Ellen and Hugh made together. I think the wording summed up the feeling of the day perfectly.
I loved these big willow trees with the river behind. It was the perfect location for photos.
The outdoor ceremony was held right next to the club house with a view of the water in the distance.
Hugh made this cake at home and told us that it took him three attempts before he got it right. It looks like he did a good job to me!
We went back to Galt Country Club right before sunset for some more photos. Normally, I wouldn’t get much time to do this so I was a happy camper! Sunset is the best time for photos in my opinion.
Thank you Ellen and Hugh for having Andrew and myself there to photograph your big day. We wish you many years of happiness!
